It was a very cold and windy day today. Not raining but still quite tricky when one's foster puppy is not yet house-trained - it means you spend a lot of time standing outside :)

Last night, Frida didn't wake me up at all, I woke up to the alarm I had set to ring at 3am and then at 6am (we went to bed at around midnight).

I think I've figured out the best 'plan' for Frida. We let her drink as much water as she possibly wants up to an hour before bed time. Then an hour before bed time, we put the water away. This means she has less water to hold onto through the night.

This is where I put her crate - next to my side of the bed

When she wants to wee, she sits up like this and gives a few squeaks at me

Like I said, last night there was no squeaking. We slept in for a while this morning so we snoozed for a bit and then Dan wee'd her at about 9am - she slept very quietly and patiently in her crate.

She needs to be toileted about 5 minutes after drinking and about 15 minutes after eating. Today after I fed her lunch, I kept her in my lap for 15 minutes so there was no danger of puddles and poodles around the house and then I took her outside for toileting. It worked out well. I wouldn't say she toilets on command but it seems quite close - she is quite prompt about toileting when we take her out. No dawdling. I have to confess I have been lazy and just used the same toileting command we use for Elbie and Hoover - the unimaginative "poop poop!" Some people say quick quick or toilet but I worry that those words can pop up in ordinary speech and the last thing I want is my poor dog to toilet somewhere they shouldn't just because I accidentally give them the toileting command.

She does not like the puppy pen - she just does not like to be segregated from the rest of the household and will cry and cry. Oddly enough, she'd rather be in her crate in the thick of it, so if we put her in her crate and put it in the study with us, she's happy with that. What she likes best though is to lie in the dog bed so after dinner, we toilet her and then she has a play time where she gets to run around with the dogs and us.

Once that's over, we keep putting her on the dog bed and putting her back when she wanders - eventually she just curls up and goes to sleep. It's important that she learns how to chill out in the evenings.

Some cute photos from this afternoon

Some video from today

Tomorrow afternoon she has a play date with Ollie's family
