Spot, a great Dane mix, waits every day for her owner to come driving down a road in Lone Oak, Texas, after work. Her owner was killed by a drunk driver five months ago.

I love reading about those incredibly brave dogs.

Here is a wonderful article about the 12 dogs who are still alive.

The 9/11 rescue dogs: Portraits of the last surviving animals who scoured Ground Zero one decade on. There are some beautiful, beautiful photos of some beautiful animals. They are old but they're still gorgeous.

Then there's this very brief photo montage of the dogs of 9/11:



I know I'm a crazy dog lady, but I really do believe that humans and dogs have an amazing bond. Dan who is a cat person remarked that there should be an article about the cats who helped out during 9/11, but that's the thing - they wouldn't have, but dogs are attuned to humans in a way that's quite unfathomable sometimes.
