Meet Diesel. He's not our foster dog - he's on transit to his foster carer with Farmdogz Rescue in Victoria.
We picked him up from the vet today after he had been desexed. He's a very nice boy - completely untrained but he has a very lovely temperament. He was the Yard 12 Kelpie at DAS from a little while back.
Might as well give our assessment :)
House-training | We were told he marks so we've kept him on a leash inside. So far though he was fine about toileting outside and has not marked or done anything naughty inside. |
Doorway etiquette | Rushes through doors. |
Car travel | OK with wearing a harness and travelling in a car |
Mealtime manners | Impatient and has no mealtime manners but he is catching on. He also has an EXTREMELY gentle mouth and there's absolutely no nipping or roughness. He has an even softer mouth than Nova/Baxter, which is saying something. |
Basic focus work (Watch), sit and drop | He has a sit but it's not 100% yet. He is quite focused - very ball-mad and he can be lured into a drop. |
Go to your mat/crate/bed | Doesn't know this but seems happy enough to be coaxed into a crate and is very quiet and happy to be in the crate once there |
1-2 camera-friendly tricks | Can be lured into a spin |
Assess friendliness/neutrality | Friendly with strangers. Jumps up a little but is pretty well-behaved. Gets very excited about dogs about absolutely no signs of dog aggression at all. |
Assess other behaviours | No mouthing. Seems very relaxed in new environments. Seems quite calm when not around strange dogs. Pulls when on a leash. Fine about being handled, brushed/furminated. |
Here is some video:

Calm in the crate

Unfortunately, because of his stitches, we can't let him around with our two or he'll rip himself open. So he's being crated, poor pup. He's being very good and quiet though. The vet didn't give him any pain meds though, which seems a bit odd!
Some more photos. He was shivering a bit so we put a coat on him

Here he is keeping me company as I make salted caramel blondies
