This is dear Santa, we met him on 31 October 2010 where he was being fostered by Kate after being dumped by his heartless owners at the pound in Canberra. It was very sad for us to see such a friendly old guy being dumped at the pound. We made this video:
Friends who watched the video said this:
"I can't tell you how often I watch these videos through tears. I hope Santa's former owners have kids who warehouse them and never visit when they get old. It's still less than they deserve, but it's something. My fingers are crossed that he finds a home soon."
"I can't watch the other videos yet, I'm still crying over Santa. Look at his optimistically wagging old tail. :(... If I ever get another dog, I'm going to tell the rescue agency I want the oldest dog they've got."
In November 2010, he was placed on adoption but returned because the lady was allergic to him.
In March 2011, I received an update from his previous foster carer about him: "Speaking of oldies, you would have been delighted in the home that Santa got just before I left. A really gentle, caring woman who I could tell was going to treat him like a prince. Sadly, blood tests shortly after she got him revealed that he has cancer, and its gone beyond treatable, but she was philosophical and I know she will give him the best life hes able to have."
I November 2011, his previous foster carer wrote to me and said: "Remember old Santa, the chubby smiley white cattle x foster of mine that you made a video of? Well this afternoon he went to sleep for the last time, poor old guy. He had cancer and despite his owner sparing no expense or effort in his care, it had progressed to a point where he was no longer able to be made comfortable. His owner is devestated cos he was such a special old guy. His video is still on Pet Rescue and its proving quite the tear jerker for me now. Im so glad to have it there to remember him in happier times - Im sure it will be a real treasure for his owner too."
I was sad but happy that Santa was able to spend his last year in a loving home - as he deserved.
