We are starting our doggies at nosework (scent detection) and Hoover and Dodge attended their first workshop this morning where they all had a great time. Elbie will do it, too but it's too hard to wrangle 3 dogs. Even better was the fact that former foster Smudge attended as well, with her new mum Alice and her new big brother Reggie. Despite still being such a wee dog, Smudge did soooooooooo well. She is a beautiful girl, shining with health and is doing really well with Alice.

Remember when Nutmeg and Smudge met some little kids? :) It made a great impression. Ani has mentioned them often and drew a picture, too. Read more... )

Yeah I know they're not together anymore, but in my memories it will always be Nutmeg & Smudge and they'll always be together :)

Just some video of the puppies. They kept me company in the kitchen while I was baking today.

It's been a long hard slog, but Dodge is finally calmer around the puppies. I felt so awful having to constantly segregate them, but they would wind him up, he would get excited and wind them up and then it would be chaos.

We still have to crate him when they are in the yard though otherwise he does crazy OCD circles around the yard up on the higher level which drives the puppies crazy because we won't want them up there when the bigger dogs are there in case they follow and do the big jumps. Inside he's getting much calmer.

Puppies have earned Grown Up privileges tonight and are now chilling out in the study with the rest of us instead of being segregated in the puppy pen. Here they are pretending to be cute :) Read more... )

Nutmeg is being adopted Monday but Smudge needs some more photos for her profile, so Dan took some photos of the pups (mainly Smudge) in the yard yesterday. Read more... )

Puppies are doing well.

Nutmeg's being adopted Monday and it occurred to me that she hasn't had any leash practice yet which could be tricky when they want to toilet her on the long, long drive home. So here is some first exposure to The Leash. They both did well. They are very smart little puppies.

She would really do well as a flyball or an agility dog. Look at her go :)

Nutmeg and Smudge are both doing well. They are sleeping through the night - we toilet them before bed and they sleep for about 6-8 hours in their crate. We toilet them first thing in the morning.

They've had a few accidents but are doing really well for such little puppies and when I open the crate - they go running to the door and leap outside to toilet :)

In terms of food, not only are they learning to wait for their food - I am putting the food to the side and teaching them that they must look at me and not the food. Both are doing well and their eyes are so alert and intelligent as they stare at me in the hope that I will let them eat their food.

In terms of socialisation - they have been exposed to dogs, new people, noisy washing machine and dryer, electric mixer, dyson, food processor and other noisy appliances. They will be meeting more people and dogs this weekend.
