Cricket arrived at 2.30 am this morning!!!! My god!! I couldn't believe the time. We picked him up at a closed petrol station by the side of the Federal Highway from his long trip from Broken Hill Pound. Lex was there to pick up some kitties. I felt so incredibly dodgy hanging out at a closed petrol station at that time of night/morning!

He's very timid and shy but wags his tail when you pat him and seems to love people. We put Advantix on him as soon as he arrived.

He went for a quick vet check today and get the worst of his ticks removed.

At least 50 of them

He was a very good boy - some of them were huge ticks and it was painful for him and he bled (poor thing!!), but he stayed quiet and settled the whole way through

Although not crate-trained, he slept quietly in a crate through the night and seems very comfortable to hang out in his crate even with the door open

Resident dogs Dodge, Elbie and Hoover are not impressed though as they are segregated from the foster dog until his anti-tick meds kick in and theirs do, too!!

Ears back, not sure ...

Thpt

Sigh. Hard couple of days

No ball interest yet

"Why you take my picture human?"

Temporary segregation will end tomorrow when he has a bath and his tick meds have taken effect. Then he can play with the resident dogs

Here's his preliminary training table. It's very early days.

Progress Table
House-training | Not house-trained and lifted his leg at the vet's but seems trainable. No accidents in the house so far. |
Doorway etiquette | He seems quite submissive. |
Car travel | OK with wearing a harness and travelling in a car. A very quiet traveller. |
Mealtime manners | Very timid. Haven't fed him around the others yet. |
Basic focus work (Watch), sit and drop | Too early to judge |
Go to your mat/crate/bed | Too early but he slept beautifully in a crate last night and seems very happy to be in a crate. |
1-2 camera-friendly tricks | Too early |
Assess friendliness/neutrality | Very people-friendly. Seems fine around other dogs - fine at the vet's but we haven't introduced him to our dogs yet until he is tick-free. |
Assess other behaviours | Very, very timid. Stays low, rolls over submissively. Also flinches at sudden movements and sounds. Very, very sensitive to any form of correction |
Optional:
Sit-Stay | Too early |
Drop-stay | Too early |
Recall | Too early |
Loose leash walking | Too early but seems to walk nicely on a leash |
Slightly more complex trick | Too early |
