Training Progress Table for Twiggy
Behaviour | Day 2 in care | Second last day in care |
House-training | Seems to understand she needs to wee outside, still a bit shaky on defecating :P Two accidents in the lounge so far | Excellent - although can revert a little during very bad weather as she does not like going outside in the wet |
Doorway etiquette | Would like to rush through but will wait when told | Much better. Will wait before coming in but still rushes out sometimes |
Car travel | Travels well in a crate or in a harness | Still excellent |
Mealtime manners | Untrained but was very easy to teach to wait for her food and look up at the handler. Even when released, she looked at our three other dogs for guidance to see if she was really allowed to eat | Excellent - waits when food is placed in front of her and does not eat until released with an 'ok' |
Basic focus work (Watch), sit and drop | Has a good sit and is very focused. Not going to try to teach her drop until she is more settled | Very focused around food. Sits and drops. |
Go to your mat/crate/bed | Completely untrained but will go into her crate if you pat the mattress. Does not like the kitchen crate so we are feeding her in the kitchen crate. She slept fine in a soft crate though and is happy to go into the soft crate and the crate in the family room and lounge room without being prompted and without the door being closed after her | Can be sent to her crate or mat with hand gestures |
1-2 camera-friendly tricks | Completely untrained. | Can spin, shake hands and beg |
Assess friendliness/neutrality | Very friendly around people and other dogs. A little shy at first but warms up quickly. | Very friendly around strange dogs. A little shy with strange people but warms up quickly |
Assess other behaviours | Relaxed around vacuum cleaner, washing machine etc. Is quite anxious when anyone leaves, even if there are dogs or other people around. We will need to do a lot of work with 'leaving' her in a crate. When she's outside, she hangs around the door wanting to come in. That being said, she was left with two of the dogs in the backyard for an hour or so today and was fine. |
Overall very friendly and well-behaved - no issues with any household appliances. Has been fine when taken to public places (shopping centres etc). Main issues are that she can get excited/anxious when those around her are excited and anxious. She still has an issue with being left behind. Has a nice recall. Can walk nicely on a leash when she is calm but when she is excited, still pulls like crazy. |
