Poor Dyson. We came home last night and he had got his leg tangled in the hessian cover of the outdoor dog bed.
We don't know how long he had been tangled up - could have been up to an hour because Dan had gone to pick me up from work and I was half an hour later than usual :(
He was crying a lot, limping and not putting any weight on the leg and walking funny. Dan took him to the emergency vet but then because he seemed a lot more normal, decided to bring him home again and take him to our normal vet today because we've had some mixed experiences at the emergency vet
The report of the vet visit is below:
"Dyson didn't tear/break/dislocate/shred/obliterate anything, but there is some swelling/soreness/bruising on the tendon and he's been given some anti-inflammatories. He'll go back on Thursday afternoon for a follow-up with Dr Fiona.
The vet said there's a chance of nerve damage which would rule out a sporting career or hard exercise. Or it could just be a result of the swelling and could heal soon. Basically she curled his foot so the tops of his toes were touching the ground (similar to how his foot was curling last night) and then waited to see how long it would take him to de-curl his foot to stand normally. She said it should be a subconscious reaction but his is delayed right now. She's optimistic that it should heal normally but you never know.
The vet examined the leg quite thoroughly, explained that she wasn't finding any evidence of swelling in the this-or-that, or improper draining of the whatever-nodes, etc etc. Dyson was pretty relaxed about getting his leg handled every which way.
Anyway... Dyson should rest for the next few days. We'll see what Dr Fiona thinks on Thursday. "
