True went to the vet today. Karen spent a lot of time poking and prodding True's pelvic region while Steph the nurse held her up by the front paws (i.e. True was standing on hind legs). Then they flopped her onto her back and Karen did some more prodding while Steph checked for an ear tattoo. She found desexing the tattoo. The tattoo is pretty far down and hard to spot because the ears are dark.
We are very relieved they didn't have to cut her open given that Karen said that the wound would have had to have been EXTRA large in order to get a good look around. So the lucky girl only had to be micro-chipped. She even got tested around cats today and was totally fine.
Vet was lovely - didn't even want to charge for the consult but then Dan remembered the microchip so they chipped her and charged for that.
She needs some training and exposure to more situations, female dogs, people including small children ... and she'll be ready to adopt. She already has THREE very good adoption applications in a waiting list for consideration even though we only have crap photos of her so far.
I'm still baffled why anyone would desex her, look after her (she's in good condition) and then not look for her at the pound? She's a lovely dog - no issues that we can tell so far except that she's a bit of a princess about toileting in the rain ...
Here she is tonight at Miss Van's in West Acton buying dinner with us. Miss Van's has a water dish for dogs now :)

Dogs are unimpressed they didn't get any banh mi. Blurry photo sorry :P
