Some dog tricks

Some times, the weather is so foul you don't want to take the dogs outside - or you're feeling too sick to go out. That's fine - the dogs don't mind as long as you find something interesting for them to do. Tricks training is an excellent pass-time on those times you don't feel like going out. It's also an excellent way to dole out their kibble at dinner, too.
Food games like a dog brick are very handy.
The Nina Ottosson Dog Brick is a game not a toy and it has four sets of two sliders under which you can hide kibble as well as a centre row where you can place treats either in the open or under plastic covers shaped similar to bones.

Our foster dog Nova and dog brick
Before we bought a proper dog brick, we improvised and got a muffin tin, six balls and put a piece of kibble under each ball:
Go to your mat. An easy one and useful. Just keep sending your do to its mat until it learns how to go there from a distance. Lure it over with treats and praise it. Increase the distance.
Go here for my link about crate training.
Beg. Put dog in a sit, hold a treat above its nose. Reward when it tips back but does NOT put its paws up but holds a nice beg position.
Rear end awareness training. So easy to teach. Put your yellow pages on the ground. Reward your dog when he puts his front two paws on the phonebook.
Watch this video for how to train it:
Eventually you should be able to move around the phone book and your dog learns to pivot his hind legs without taking his front paws off of the phone book. It's useful for tricks and that sort of thing - but it's just handy to teach your dog new things.
Heeling and also more on rear-end awareness
Rollover. This video teaches you how to teach your dog to rollover. You need to a good drop before you can teach it:
Dead. You need a good rollover before you can teach this. Drop your dog, do a semi roll-over but stop your dog before he does a complete roll. Lure him until he drops and rolls onto his side. Once he does this reliably. Give the command a word like 'bang' :)
More detailed instructions:
Speak and dead
Some random tricks
Food refusal. Hold the treat in front of the dog's face. When he tries to eat it, close your hand. Eventually he will learn to just wait. When he does not try to get the food, release him and let him eat the treat.
Are you shy. This is a pretty tricky trick to teach but it's a lot of fun.
There are a variety of ways to teach it but this was the one that worked for us:
Watch this video about how to improve recall
Dumbbell training
We have NOT taught this but this is how to teach your dog to get a drink for you from the fridge
Dogs can be taught to ring a bell
Teach your dog to close doors
Peekaboo
Teach a dog to balance a treat on his nose
How to stop a dog pulling on the leash/loose leash walking
