Day 4 of crate training and Nova is actually doing really well. He's the first dog we've had here who has hated the crate so much - day 1 he was screaming and barking his head off when he was in the crate. We basically had to stuff him inside which is really not the way we wanted to do it. Last night, he went to the crate of his own accord and you can see that today, he is doing very nicely and seems quite comfortable in the crate.

The blue soft crate he is using will go with him for his trial adoption - we have another soft crate which is on trial with the Ollie Monster right now. Last night, he went to his soft crate willingly at bed time. Today, Nova went to his crate when we wanted to have our dinner and was fine about being zipped up.
Next training challenges:
1. His nuisance barking when alone in the backyard. This one is an interesting challenge because neither of our dogs nor any of the previous dogs we've had here before have been nuisance barkers. We've been very lucky. We'll keep working on this one and see how we go. With our two, throwing a jug of water their way usually did the trick! :)
2. Dog-Dog interactions. Last night, he stood very still, tail went stiff and he growled at Elbie for no reason. It was very random because the three dogs have been getting along fine. So we need to work through these things. Elbie doesn't like every dog and we've learned to recognise the signs when he doesn't like a dog. We need to figure out what makes Nova uncomfortable/cranky so that we can make sure his new owners are aware of it, too and know how to deflect/distract when that happens.
