RADAR Rookie: Day 1 in care
We picked up our latest foster dog from Gundagai Pound today.

We should probably call him Marky Mark because he seriously marks everything ... We debated names - Paddington, Titan, Goliath (because he is chunky looking), but in the end Dan decided on Rookie because he is a lovely dog but has zero training and a lot to learn :)
Details
Approximately 2 years old
Weighs 18.4 kg and is a chunky monkey
Black and white with lovely white markings on him
Kelpie cross
Male. Has his balls and they are big and dangley - need to get him to the vet for a deballing as soon as possible.
Was wormed on 26 April and was given a C5 and a flea med on 17 April.
Progress Table
Optional:
Socialisation checklist is here.
Here he was in the crate before we set off back to Canberra:

Not a fan of the crate but we've put him in a smallish crate so he doesn't mark it.

So many of our fosters do this when they first come into care... We have so many crates and beds but they lie on the ground...

Progress Table
House-training | Too early, just in care. Doesn't look like he has ever been in a house before - tries to mark everything. |
Doorway etiquette | Too early, just in care |
Car travel | Travelled well in a crate for the 2 hour journey - a few whinges but mostly quiet |
Mealtime manners | Shows no interest in food so far and has spat out all treats. Andrew clearly fed him too well ;) |
Basic focus work (Watch), sit and drop | Too early, just in care |
Go to your mat/crate/bed | Too early, just in care |
1-2 camera-friendly tricks | Too early, just in care |
Assess friendliness/neutrality | Very people-friendly and very dog-friendly. Absolutely no signs of aggro towards humans or any of our three dogs. When he first met Dodge, he was interested but there was no hackling or even lunging. |
Assess other behaviours | Nice natured, quiet dog. Not barky even when the other three were barking madly at the water meter guy. Despite being chunky he likes to run and jump up and down from the retaining wall. |
Optional:
Sit-Stay | Useful and nice to have |
Drop-stay | Useful and nice to have |
Recall | Emma says people are likely to ask about off-leash recall |
Loose leash walking | Hard given that this is still a work in progress for my two! |
Slightly more complex trick | Rollover, speak, dead, wave, are you shy etc |
Socialisation checklist is here.
